Top 5 Newspaper Comic Strips

Unfortunately, not many people still read the comics page. Even more unfortunately, not many good comic strips are left. I’ve always read some book collections when I had the chance and I always read the comics page when I can. Here is what I think are the best comics.

5. Get Fuzzy

Another hilarious comic. A mean-as-can-be cat with a not so bright dog with a smart owner. It is not a rip off of Garfield like it sounds.

4. Foxtrot

A typical family? HA! Foxtrot is random and hilarious. Genius little brother, stereotypical teenage sister, and football and Springsteen obsessed older brother, strict mother, and not-so-bright father.

3. Garfield

A classic. No other comic strip can claim that their main character was once on almost every car in America. Garfield is a fat, lazy, and proud cat. If you haven’t heard of him, you parents or grandparents definately have.

2. Pearls Before Swine

Pearls is a very cynical and hilarious comic. One of the few great comics still left in the paper. They use political satire, they make fun of all comic strips that are from the 50s and earlier, and constantly break the fourth wall. (the characters know that they’re in a comic strip.)

1. Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes was very unique. A boy and his stuffed tiger (who is actually alive) had many adventures as well as political discussions. It was one of the most popular comic strips of all time. Bill Watterson, its creator, also tried really hard to not commercialize any of the characters or comics.

Other awesome comics: farside, bloom county, non-sequitor, doonesbury, peanuts.
